Malaika
On Sunday, March 14th, the South African Invasion hits the shores of Manhattan. For the first time in the United States, South African Superstar group, Malaika comes for a long-awaited concert.Their music has crossed borders, continents, cultures and all ages; now the group brings their music to the city that never sleeps.
Composed of Bongani Nchanga and the astonishing heavenly voice of Tshedi Mholo, the group is forging on after the tragic passing of their third member, Jabu Ndaba.
Malaika released their debut album in 2005 and it hit multiple platinum status at a pace unequalled in the history of South African pop music. Their second album was also critically and commercially acclaimed with praise coming from all quarters and establishing their diverse fan base. Malaika's music is described as the perfect blend of post-kwaito, post-mbaqanga and neo-soul, creating a whole new type of music dubbed Nu Afro-pop; whose elements are melodic and harmonious. The group has skillfully moulded English back into the mix of a black South African pop, making their music accessible to any audience.
On march 14th, the group will play their many hits including 'I Am An African', 'Melodi (Hoona Joale)' & 'Dichabeng'. Dont miss this fantastic show.
