BLACK PROMOTERS ISSUES. Some of them only need a 15 minutes of fame. Not me!!!

Hello people of Party zone,

I have a gripe, to discuss with you, when it comes to Urban Promoters & Club Owners.

What is a “Bar Guarantee?

In 5 hours they make $10,000 or more over our heads, and if we don’t we’re expected or obligated to pay the difference. As well as having half of that in cash or holding in on a credit card before your party/event begins.

I, Ketner of KETNER INSPIRED refuses to be held at that standard, a party deserves to generate its self, or no deal.

In my opinion, there are a few promoters who’ll give their soul to the devil for the 15 minutes of fame.

This is why the “THUG” element in parties are so into play nowadays.

They’re the crowd who does make the money and doesn’t appreciate in looking decent.

Our names and reputations end up on a BLACK LIST created by the NYPD, hence the HIP HOP police task force. Who gets our emails, and they create accounts to know what we are up to, and spoils something we’re looking to create before it begins.

I had a female detective approach me once, and lets just say she wasn’t successful in getting anything from me. However I can’t say the same for me. I’m not proud of it, but I was hip to her game.

I do understand that some venues do need a few fixings, for example like IRVING PLAZA, a sound man, speaker rentals, etc.

Some places will ask you for space rental and bar guarantee, promoters are throwing unnecessary money away.

So when an established promoter as myself, and others look to produce an event. These owners refuse to negotiate with us based on your poor decision dealings. You’ve got to realize we’re smarter than that, URBAN parties in New York City, bring the most if not the only significant revenue to our city, and they don’t respect that. I urge you in making your business flourish to stick to your business sense and make wise moves or concur with other seasoned promoters.

Another thing, people refusing to support your party, sucks that’s bad business in comping half of your invited guests.

The DJ’s are expensive, flyers, distribution, and staff (door persons, cashier, enforcers, extra security) owners are not willing to advance or pay for.

I would very much like to get your feedback.
Great Success with all of your endeavors,
Ketner

If you find a club that do not have a high volume of patrons on any given night of the week, they is no reason you should be paying and bar guaranteed. I never understood why many promoters abide by this practice when their are personally paying for the DJ, Security, flyers and promotional staff out of pocket. oh what...you do it because that's is the place you want to promote at? they are many clubs and venues in this city that will love to host your events and give you an awesome deal on top of it. I see them all the time advertising on the net. I'm not saying club owners are not in the business to make money, but if you are not pulling your own consistant crowd don't try to hurt the efforts of a sub-contractor (promoter) by placing obscene cost in the deal. We all can work together to make good money and we all know their is money to be made in this industry.
I totally agree with you on this....As for myself I come from a background of 10 plus years as a Assistant Chef . So I ask what is there bar price and rentals are!.....And they tell me theses stupid numbers I look directly at them like there are stupid. If you asking me to make your Bar gurantee of $10,000, i ask them do they do that on a daily basic on there own and if not why are you asking me to produce that for you and you can't do it for yourself.

As an up and coming promoter, I do my very best event in and event out to supply our clientele with the most professional and pleasurable experience they have ever experienced. Many venues are labeled as it is, so why contribute to the stigma and tarnish your name or the reputations of your events due to so called "DEMANDS" by thoughtless Club Owners. We have to remember that we are quantity not quality in th eyes of many Club Owners. Especially, if you have a descent following in your borough or themed events. Nevertheless, this article should be published for all promoters whether newbies or vets to see.

Thank you for your words of encouragement and wisdom.....
